Interpretation Of Denotative And Conotative Meaning In “The Hate You Give” Movie Script (2018)
This thesis aims to analyze several expressions in the film script using several theories in semiotic studies. The theory in semiotic studies used to dismantle is the theory of denotation and connotation. This study uses a qualitative approach. This research was carried out using a qualitative method that is explained descriptively. The object of research in this thesis is the film script "The Hate You Give" (2018), written by Audrey Wells. The research data in this thesis were collected from several expressions shown by several characters in the film script "The Hate You Give" (2018). The results of this study are the existence of real meaning and unreal meaning found through the disclosure in the film script "The Hate You Give" is the character who runs the storyline. Therefore, all expressions of denotative and connotative meaning are used to avoid misunderstandings between the characters who should understand their intentions and goals and the previously ambiguous truth becomes clear, this is known by looking at the words, phrases, and sentences shown by the characters.
