GOTTLIEB’S SUBTITLING STRATEGY IN THE ENGLISH TO INDONESIAN LANGUAGE TRANSLATION OF THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY DRAMA SCRIPT

This study aims to analyze the utterances of different characters in a script by using pragmatics theory, especially subtitling strategy. This research used a qualitative approach and descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data because the data obtained in the form of words, clauses, and phrases that need to be described the results of the analysis. The object of this research is the drama script The Summer I Turned Pretty season 1 written by Jenny Han. There are 100 datum used in this study. The datum is divided into 8 strategies, namely transfer strategy with 18 datum, paraphrase strategy with 32 datum, expansion strategy with 10 datum, imitation strategy with 9 datum, condensation strategy with 5 datum, deletion strategy with 24 datum, transcription strategy with 1 datum, and decimation strategy with 1 datum Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that in researching the transcript of this drama, it requires the right strategy to determine accurate results.
